College of Monarchs
Denvers First Annual Cotillion Ball, held on April 20, 1974 was the beginning of ICRME. Held in a VFW Hall, it had a rocky beginning with unnamed persons protesting the use of the word cotillion and the titles of Emperor and Empress.
Despite the protestations, a panel of judges selected Phil Brands and Bridgette Peters as the First Emperor and Empress of Colorado.
The reign was still new when the elected Emperor was replaced by Emperor Regent Terry Peters.
The first reign was a time of experimentation, a time of trial and error, and a time of learning. Bridgette and Terry represented the city at a host of functions and fundraisers.
Years of living has worked their magic, and many of the memories of that first reign have simply faded into the sands of time.
What we do remember and have to share and cherish are the titles awarded: Princess Royale was Lola, later named as the First Queen Mother; Imperial Princesses for the First Reign were Dolly, Rusty, Causha Lee Victoria and Desiree. On the Emperors side, the First Prince Royale was Rick Chamberland.
The first reign also recognized those who had been instrumental in helping set up the organization and aided in the execution of the duties that were so new. Bridgette wisely chose one of Denvers hardest working Individuals and awarded the permanent title of Mother of the Realm for life to Michael (Mother) Procopio.
The end of this first reign was held as a wonderful celebration. Emperor Regent, Terry Peters was awarded the permanent title of Emperor I, and on April 26, 1975 at the Hilton Hotel Grand Ballroom, Denvers first true Coronation Ball, Love Around the World was held.

The Court continued to grow and better represent Colorado under the able leadership of the Emperor and Empress II. During the second reign there was still room for many firsts. Emperor and Empress II were indeed the true powers of the thrones during this reign. Scotti was the first candidate to use buttons and t-shirts during her campaign. Bucky was the first Monarch to hold a function to raise money for the newly established Gay & Lesbian Community Center of Colorado. They were the first to take a political stance and aided the Gay Community in stopping excessive police harassment over jaywalking tickets to patrons of The Broadway.
These monarchs are also the first elected monarchs in the Empire, with fifty per cent of the election being composed of a judges panel and the remaining fifty per cent coming from an election by popular vote of the Coronation attendees. Denver was also welcomed into the International Court System and truly recognized as a new court with the attendance of Jose I of San Francisco at Scotti's and Bucky's stepping down.
The line of succession also became and integral part of the Court. Billie Cassandra, first runner-up for Empress, became Princess Royale; with Lola as Queen Mother; Christi Layne as Grand Duchess; Desiree as Czarina and Causha Lee Victoria as Marquessa (a title created and added to the line of succession along with Marquis by Bucky). Bucky also saw the wisdom of male line of succession. Debbie Youngman, first runner-up for Emperor, became Prince Royale being replaced by Gary Korf at his stepping down and then Kenny McDonald at Causha and Shel's stepping down. Pat was Grand Duke, with Louis (Louise) as Czar, and Rose as Marquis.
Scotti and Bucky awarded a permanent title to someone they felt had been special during their reign, and also deserved special merit from the city and so Ms. Vivian Soloman was awarded the permanent title, Guardian Angel of the Court for Life.
Three other functions took hold and began to be part of the ICRME calendar. The first was the PR Ball with the theme of the Hookers and Hustlers Ball held above the now demolished Court Jester. Then followed the Empress's Snowball with its theme: Toys for Tots. Finally was the Emperor's King of Hearts Ball with the theme, An Old Fashioned Square Dance held at another legendary dance palace, The 1942. The end of Reign Two came with their stepping down theme of Colorado: 1776-2076 celebrating the bicentennial and opening the gates for the Third Reign.

Celebrating the nation's 200th anniversary, the city also celebrated the election of Chuck Anderson and Billie Cassandra as Emperor and Empress III. This was an election year in the United States, and Billie and Chuck brought further credibility to the Court by sending 5 delegates to the 1976 Democratic National Convention in New York City to help the National Gay Task Force lobby for a Gay Rights Platform.
These monarchs are also responsible for the formation of a Barony for the Empire. They proclaimed that Colorado Springs was granted the right to form an organization with its heads of state carrying the titles of Count and Countess of Southern Colorado. Within a year of its establishment, and with the consent of the Privy Council, this organization could become a Court with its own Empire. The maturity of the Court in the Gay Communities of Northern and Southern Colorado was evidenced by this bold step.
This year also proved to be a very sports oriented one with the theme of the PR Ball being Think Orange, also the theme of the Denver Broncos football team. The PR Ball was held at the Albany Hotel. The winter ball, held at the Hilton Hotel, had a theme of Winter Wonderland. Held at the Oxford, the King of Hearts Ball celebrated the theme of Mardi Gras.
The lines of succession became more and more involved with the reign. The Empresss line consisted of Princess Royale, Causha Lee; Queen Mother (for Life) Lola, Grand Duchess Lee Sommers, (later passed to Tommi Lynn); Czarina Mary Kupfer and Marquessa, Rhonda. The Emperors line of succession included, Prince Royale, Mark Bovay; Grand Duke, Bill Olson; Czar Lon Marfel and Marquis, Todd Fowler.
The 3rd Emperor and Empress both agreed that they would present their permanent title to an extremely worthy supporter of the Court System. They named Linda Rose as Imperial Princess to All Emperors and Chief Advisor to All Empresses for Life.
On April 16, 1977, Coronation IVEverythings Coming Up Roses, an appropriate salute to the 3rd Reign, was held and thus began Reign 4.

It was decided that the citizens of the empire would be the only ones to elect the Emperor and Empress. The first duly elected monarchs totally by the people of Colorado were Emperor and Empress IV, Shel Anderson and Causha Lee. It was during this reign that traditions were actively acknowledged and followed. The lines of succession to the thrones were further enhanced. It was also an interesting reign in that the Emperor and Empress lived in two different parts of the state. Emperor and Empress IV were also the most widely traveled monarch for the ICRME at the time. They traveled to over eleven coronations throughout the United States during their reign.
In a sidelight, while keeping the tradition of having the yearly PR Ball, themed A Night of Elegance and held at the Cosmopolitan Hotel; this was also the first Turnabout. The first three Emperors all arrived at the function in drag, while the Empresses all took part in the function out of drag. While perhaps not everyone was thoroughly amused it was an interesting evening. Also, in keeping with tradition, the Snowball, held at the Hilton Hotel, had a theme of Christmas in Camelot. The King of Hearts Ball for the fourth reign was a Leather & Levi Hoedown held at Union Hall in Denver.
The lines of succession were given more responsibility during their reign. For the Empress line, the Princess Royale was originally Tommi Lynn, who was succeeded by Christi Layne; Queen Mother (for life), Lola; Grand Duchess, Lee Sommers; Czarina, Lori Thimer; and Marquessa, Jamie Alexander. The Emperors line of succession consisted of Prince Royale, Lee Bacus; King Father, Lee Zittle; Grand Duke, Ron Anderson; Czar, Lon Marfel; and Marquis, Dennis.
For this reign, two permanent titles were awarded. The emperor awarded his permanent title to his real-life wife. Deanna Anderson was to be known as the Crown Princess for Life to His Imperial Majesty. The Empress awarded Knight of the Realm for Life to David (Boom Boom) Lorette.
The Merchandise Mart played host to the Coronation Myths, Lands and Legends and from atop an Aztec Pyramid, the fifth reign stepped into the spotlight.

Accepting the mantel of service for the fifth reign from the last elected Emperor and Empress of ALL Colorado were Emperor and Empress V, Bill Olson and Mikel Wright. This year was certainly another year full of firsts. Mikel named the first female Princess Royale and Bill the 2nd female Grand Czar. Additionally, Mikel, who had been closely involved and helped direct the formation of Colorados Court system, maintained his male identity by proclaiming that although he was Empress, he would be known as His Most Imperial Majesty along with the Emperor. Bill also distinguished himself by being elected to the International College of Emperors. It was only partly in jest that part of their introduction always read, The Butch and the Bitch. The 5th Monarchs were also two politically minded individuals and helped raise $5000 to send to California to help defeat their anti-gay Proposition 6. Ever mindful of the traditions set forth by previous reigns and traditions that they themselves had helped to establish, these two individuals were also clever enough to put a spin on many of their functions during the year.
Stepping away from bars and hotels, the atmosphere and theme of PR Ball was enhanced by holding The 20s Speakeasy at the Zang Mansion. The Snowball theme pushed the Toys for Tots theme to the max using Babes in Toyland at the Hilton Hotel. The back room at the 1942 played host to the King of Hearts Ball A Dance Contest.
Probably the most visible line of succession up to this point had to have been this one. Bill and Mikel were both masters of delegation and everyone on their line was made to feel an integral part of the reign. On the Empresss line of succession were, Princess Royale, Sherry Mendelsberg; Queen Mother (for life) Lola; Grand Duchess, Tammi Lynn; Marquessa, Lesley; and Reina, Nina Montaldo. The Emperor chose as Prince Royale, Patrick Weisenberger; King father, Lee Zittle; Grand Duke, Gary Edwards; and Czar, Miski.
This special year solidified the Court within the city and the Court System as a responsible, viable organization and it is from this foundation of the first five reigns that all the rest have been able to build, grow, experiment, and flourish. Appearing and disappearing into a pyramid of ice during each set, this dynamic reign came to a climatic close at Coronation V, held in the Denver Hilton. Appropriately Ice Palace set the stage for the fire of the sixth reign.

The city was ready for excitement and fire and they found it in the election of Emperor and Empress VI, Mark Bovay and Christi Layne. While the drag community had always been supportive of the Court, the Leather community had been a bit hesitant. But with the completion of the 4th and 5th Reigns and the Emperors who were elected, the selection of Emperor VI, Mark Bovay solidified the support of the Leather Community for the Court. Both the Emperor and Empress were strong personalities and often times this resulted in a loud discussion or decision. The one thing the Emperor and Empress always agreed upon was the support of their city and Empire.
By this time, the city was becoming loaded with other organizations many inspired by the success of the Court. The sixth reign was the first to publish a revolving community calendar and court schedule. This reign also was the first to produce a cohesive mailing list and mailed out minutes of its meetings to interested individuals. Christi and Mark exceeded 200 meetings/events etc during their reign. They were the first monarchs to organize a candlelight march around the State Capitol. The 6th Reign maintained an ongoing relationship with the bars and businesses by going to monthly meetings with the Tavern Guild in order to work together.
The lines of succession were also a very visible and busy part of the sixth reign. For the Empress, there was as Princess Royale, Tammi Lynn Noel; as Crown Princess, Rae Bobian, as Queen Mother (for life) Pearl DeVere; as Grand Duchess, Sonja Ozi; as Czarina, Miski; and as Baroness, Judy. On the Emperors line there was Prince Royale, Ray Allen; Grand Duke, Gary Edwards; Crown Prince, Kenny McDonald; King Father for Life, Roger Dent, and Baron, Rick Linnane.
Christi appointed Lud Vallani as High Priestess to the Court for Life and Mark appointed Rick Linnane as Baron for Life.
The stepping down, An International Leather and Rhinestone Fantasy held for the 1st time at the Regency Hotel on April 26, 1980, was magnificent, and set the stage for the seventh reign.

The seventh reign and the city began a love affair, and the monarchs the city loved were Emperor and Empress VII, Gary Edwards and Stephanie McCall. This reign also brought its share of firsts for the Court. Empress VI, Stephanie, was Denvers first African American to be elected Empress. Emperor VII, Gary, received a mandate of the city by being overwhelmingly elected. Gary was the second Emperor to achieve induction into the International College of Emperors. Gary and Stephanie saw a financial need and implemented an effective and current bookkeeping system for the court. Not content with just raising funds, these monarchs also bought 40 turkeys for the Thanksgiving Holiday and personally handed them out to those less fortunate. Because of the nature of these two gracious individuals, Gary and Stephanie saw a larger than normal commitment of Gay Women working with their reign and the Court during the year.
All of the Seventh Reigns major functions were held at Rossis Catering Hall. The PR Ball had the theme, Rags to Riches. Their Snowball theme enriched the Toys for Tots campaign with a Gala Event in Toyland. The King of Hears Ball was aglitter with Viva Las Vegas, A Night of Burlesque. The lines of succession for the 7th Reign were awash with talented individuals who helped make the 7th Reign as beloved as its monarch. For the Empress, Princess Royal was Nina Montaldo; Queen Mother (for life) Pearl DeVere; Grand Duchess, Nadine; Czarina, Annie Brenman; Marquessa, Brown Sugar; and Reina, Brandy Dennison. The Emperors line consisted of Prince Royale, Kenneth Morise; King Father (for life) Roger Dent; Grand Duke, Vaden Stanley; Czar, Jim Ash; Marquis, Miski; and Don, Gene Patton.
The permanent title given during this reign was of particular interest as he happened to be the Emperors life partner. It was heartwarming to have Emperor VII present Empress II, Scotti Carlyle, the title of The Imperial and Final Protector & Consort to Emperor 7, The Spectrum of Love, Governed by Burgandy, The Goddess of Love Isis for Life.
The paramount Theater set an exciting scene as the Emperor and Empress were lowered from the ceiling to begin their stepping down, Gold Rush A Night of Extravagance. Amid the backdrop of the Mountains and a live waterfall, the seventh reign came to and end and the majesty of the eighth reign began.

The eighth reign brought about some changes to the court, and the city chose as their agents of change Emperor and Empress VIII, Jim Ash and Annie Brenman-West. As the Gay Communities premier news periodical, OUTFRONT said, Pert and pretty Empress Annie, the first woman to hold the coveted title in the Imperial Court, distinguishes her office with style and dignity and by making decisions that reflect common sense. Emperor Jim brought a new direction and flash for the male side of the monarchy. No Emperor in Denver, before or since, has displayed his individuality with as much pizzazz and flamboyance as did the eighth Emperor. Under the eighth Reign, a new governing body took shape in the formation of a twelve member Advisory Council. Out of this council came the requirement of function accountability with report sheets to be filled out and turned in after each function held by a court member. The Courts by-laws, were examined and updated in depth. Court members' attendance at Court functions was tracked for purposes of gauging Court involvement.
During the eighth Reign, the Empresss Touch of Class show became a Gay Pride Event. Jim and Annie were the first monarchs to have a non-gay publication cover their Coronation (Rocky Mountain Business Journal, Mar. 31, 1982, Issue). The energy of the eighth reign was evident in their major functions. The PR Ball was really a dinner and show, held at the Fuji En. It carried the theme of Sayonara. Snowball was a Christmas Affair & Carnival, with a magic show and organizational booths held at Rossis Catering Hall. The King of Hearts ball went sports-minded, with Campaign Kick-Off, a football inspired theme also held at Rossis.
The energy and electricity of the monarchs was further upheald by their lines of succession. For Annie, Princess Royale was Janelle Neiman; Queen Mother (for life) Pearl DeVere; Czarina, Brandy Dennison; Marquessa, Jay Sutherland. For Jim, the Prince Royale was Hal Reidemann; King Father (for life), Ron Heath; Grand Duke, Chuck Fugita; Czar, Chuck Bates; and Marquis, Steve Anger. Brandy Dennison was made the Imperial Butterfly Princess for Life by Annie, while Jim gave his permanent title to Missy of L.A. as Empress of Empresses for Life.
Amid one of the most spectacular sets Denver has ever had, Egypt Pharaohs in Time at the Denver Radisson, the eighth Reign went to glory and the ninth Reign began its journey.
Empress VIII, Annie Brenman-West, is the only member of the Eighth Reign who has remained actively involved with ICRME. Besides coordinating many Coronations and putting together numerous programs and selling advertising for them, her focus has been working with the White Rose Scholarship Committee. Annie was the first empress to have a college degree when she was empress and is fully committed to encouraging every one to continue their education beyond high school.
Education is the most important investment we can make in ourselves for the future. An education beyond high school can leverage someone's earning potential by more than a million dollars in their lifetime. Any help that we, the White Rose Scholarship Committee, can do will impact the future of whom ever we help.
During the 20th Anniversary of the Eighth Reign, Annie helped to establish the Cressy-West Endowment Fund, by contributing $2000.00 as seed money. She worked tirelessly to find a professional, non-profit money manager to place the funds with. The Giving First organization not only manages our funds, but they work with ICRME/WRSF to grow the funds. It is our hope to draw money off the fund for scholarships soon.

The ninth Reign began with an interesting flavor! The person elected Empress was previously best known and involved as a male titleholder. Thus, began the year with Emperor and Empress IX, Timm Steinkrueger and Vaden Stanley. These two monarchs did a number together in drag (with moustache), a green leotard, and huge tutu! Vaden proved herself to be extremely well spoken on the microphone, much to the surprise of many of his friends who never knew how well hed take to this drag persona. This reign was responsible for one of the more fun traditions the court currently enjoys; the annual headdress competition. Timm and Vaden also happened to reign during a citywide election year and were able to have all three mayoral candidates at the ninth reign's stepping down.
Timm and Vadens set design and organization were enjoyed at all of their major functions. Puttin on the Ritz, held at the Union Street Hotel was a delightful visit back to the 20s & 30s. The Hilton Hotel played host to the Snowball and Babes in Toyland allowed everyone to let loose their inner child. The King of Hearts theme, King Solomons Mines was a wonderful way to promote their Coronation theme.
These two individuals had a dedicated line of succession backing them every step of the way. For Vaden, these included Princess Royale, Jaye Sutherland; Queen Mother (for Life) Pearl DeVere; Grand Duchess, Brandy Dennison; Czarina, Sandra Graves; Marquessa, Roxie Lamont; and Reina, Lee Gagliardi. Timm enjoyed the support of Prince Royale Steve Anger; King Father (for Life), Roger Dent; Grand Duke, Gregg Looker, Czar, Chuck Bates and Marquis, Reggie Grove. Vaden awarded her permanent title to an outstanding court member. Sandra Graves was made 1st Imperial Princess of Love to all Empresses for Life. Timm made a moving presentation of his title, Princess Regal, Keeper of Love and Laughter for Life to Bublz LaRue.
Celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire on April 16, 1983, A Diamond Dynasty Jubilee, held at the downtown Raddison, was a festive occasion and ushered in the next decade with fitting pomp and circumstance.

The tenth reign was a time for getting back to the basics and the city found two willing partners in the election of Emperor and Empress X, Roger Dent and Brandy Dennison. Both Roger and Brandy had been involved with the court system for several years before their elections and neither had any delusions about the job they had chosen to take on. This year proved very productive in the number of fundraisers that the tenth Reign held. Roger and Brandy were constantly on the move about the city either with each other or on opposite sides of the city covering as much ground and as many functions as they could. The ICRME Empire also was able to benefit from their reign with the number of out of town functions these two were able to attend. With their gracious manner and easygoing attitudes, Colorados Court system was definitely well represented.
The PR Ball held that year was neat and to the point, The Prince and Princess Royalty Ball held at Rossis helped to get the tenth Reign on its way. Equally as direct was Snowball 82, again, held at Rossis. The King of Hearts Ball went western during this year and featured an outstanding show.
The tenth Emperor and Empress were ably supported by their respective lines of successions. For Brandy, this consisted of Princess Royale, Dena Lee (who resigned before the year came to a close); Queen Mother (for Life) Pearl DeVere; Grand Duchess, Roxie LaMont; Czarina, Geri Drieling; and Marquessa, Mona Del Ray. Roger was aided during his reign by, Prince Royale Carl Hundall; King Father (for Life), Dave (Boom Boom) Lorette; Grand Duke, Bill Hall; Czar, Phil Ehrenhard; Marquis, Jerry Drieling; and Don Shelly Bouchard.
It was difficult for these monarchs to choose their permanent titles, but in the end, both permanent titles were awarded to members of their lines of succession. Brandy selected Geri Drieling as Diamond Butterfly Princess to Empress X for Life and Roger named Bill Hall as Grand Duke to Emperor X for Life.
The end of the 10th Reign went Tropical! An Elegant Evening in the Tropics held at the Radison Hotel was an explosion of color and lighting. The tenth reign came to its close and the sun rose up on the eleventh.

A year of whimsy and fun was lead merrily by the selection of Emperor and Empress XI, Rick Linnane and Jaye Sutherland. Again, the city had chosen two gracious hardworking individuals as their leaders. The mutual admiration was very much evident by their being the first to have their picture as Monarchs together in the Coronation program.
Club Nights started with the raffling of a motorcycle, (donated to the Court), at the Tool Box (now the Compound); then being asked to host a Club Night and becoming a mid-week event once a month. They also started an ICRME Club Night at Mikes so they had two Club Nights going during their reign! Notable contributions during the reign included $100.00 from actress Martha Raye during a Club Night; $2500 raised in 2 ½ hours by the King Father and Queen Mother, and a benefit for the purchase of a spotlight (Still in use Today).
Again, the PR Ball was a simple ceremony filled with fun and talent and held at the Cherry Creek Mining Company. Snow Ball was held at Rossis and maintained its Toys for Tots theme with Jaye and Rick as Mr. & Mrs. Claus at home. The King of Hearts Ball took a fanciful turn. Rossis became the site for Circus, Circus.
The extremely talented line of succession this year were Princess Royale, Chenelle Austin; Queen Mother for Life, Pearl DeVere; Grand Duchess, Roxie LaMont; Czarina, Mona Del Ray; Marquessa, Jamie Cole; and Reina, Billie Watts. Emperor XI was strengthened by the support of his Prince Royale, Dino Anderson; King Father, Ron Heath; Grand Duke, Bob Marshall; Czar, Fred Valdez; Marquis, Bill Richards and Don, Lee Ivers. Empress Jaye elected Gail Whittington as Lord High Chamberlain for Life, while Emperor Rick chose Bill Richards as the Lord High Baron to All Emperors for Life.
As was befitting of their reign, the city looked upward towards, Castles in the Clouds Coronation theme at the Downtown Radisson. As a further reward from the 11th Reign, Jaye and Rick had the only Coronation which managed to complete EARLY! A challenge which was passed onto the 12th Reign.

Strength in leadership and someone who truly loved our Court System are only two of the adjectives which described Emperor and Empress XII, Jamie Cole and Dave (Boom Boom) Lorette. The Twelfth Emperor and Empress were both extremely organized individuals and this reign proved to be one of the better administratively run. It emphasized the importance of including the entire reign by organizing caravans of court members to visit other cities in the realm. Boom Booms outstanding wit and sense of humor, coupled with Jamies vast store of court history, made them both very popular at out of town Coronations, and wonderful representatives for the city at many fundraisers and organizational events they attended. A very busy year for the court was highlighted by the completion of the project to restore stained glass windows at Metropolitan Community Church, with the court purchasing one window in its name.
The PR Ball was held at Rossis with the theme An Evening in Monte Carlo, And, as had become tradition, allowed Jamie and Boom Boom the opportunity to introduce their lines of succession and a host of other court titles. Snow Ball, Christmas on the Strip", was held at the Radisson and of course featured the headdress competition. The Radisson also played host for A Night on Skid Row, the Twelfth Reigns King of Hearts Ball. Planning Coronation for this year was an interesting event all by itself. Due to an error in double booking, the ICRME and the Radisson had to go into negotiations and as a result, the ICRME received most of the hotels services and facilities for free.
Both monarchs had wonderfully supportive lines of succession. Empress XII, Jamie was aided in her efforts by Princess Royale, Mona Del Ray; Queen Mother, Pearl DeVere; Grand Duchess, Ashley Novak; Czarina, Roxie LaMont; Marquessa, Valerie; and Reina, Billie Yates. In turn, Emperor XII, Boom Boom was helped by his Prince Royale, Fred Valdez; King Father, Ron Heath; Grand Duke, Gail Whittington and Czar, Chuck Bates. The Empress chose to award her permanent title for this year to Ashley Novak: Countess of Love to Empress XII for Life. Boom Boom awarded his permanent title to Vince Kline as Sir Vince, Knight of the Realm for Life.
Amid a Vegas-inspired setting, the Twelfth Reign presented Coronation XIII, Hallelujah Vegas! A Night of Imperial Entertainment, at the Downtown Radisson Hotel. It was in this spectacular setting that Reign 13 took up the reins of power and began their Imperial Journey.

The Thirteenth reign was anything, but unlucky in spite of it's number! The city that chose two dynamic people to serve as the leaders of the Court and a new energy, was evident during the entire reign of Emperor and Empress XIII, Chuck Bates and Chenelle Austin.
During the Thirteenth Reign, Emperor XIII and Empress XIII made a very attractive couple and because they were constantly together, they were often referred to as the Barbie & Ken of ICRME, in fun. These two individuals had no problem with the loving nick-name and, on occasion, went out of their way to make sure no one would forget their camp title. This reign was also much respected in that the Thirteenth Empress has been the only monarch in the history of the Court to wear the State Crown at another courts coronation. Emperor Thirteen, Chuck, is also the 3rd ICRME Emperor to be selected for the International Court of Emperors. The Mayor of Denver, Frederico Pena, attended Chuck and Chenelle's stepping down, along with the other candidates who, at that time, were vying for the office of Mayor.
Chuck and Chenelle were both consistent throughout their year with their themes for their major functions. All three of their functions were held at the Downtown Radisson. The PR Ball had the theme of Land of Make Believe. The Snow Ball theme was An Evening at the Crystal Palace, while the King of Hearts Ball was called Beneath the Crystal Palace.
The Thirteenth Reign was another blessed with an industrious Imperial Family. For the Empress, there was her Princes Royale, Roxie LaMont; Queen Mother, Pearl DeVere; Grand Duchess, Ashley Novak; Czarina, Morgana; and Marquessa, Lucy LaRue. The Emperor was helped by his Prince Royale, Vince Kline; King Father, Ron Heath; Grand Duke, Jerry Harrel; Czar, Reggie Grove; and Marquis, Myron. Both monarchs presented permanent titles at the close of their reign. Once again, the permanent titles were awarded to outstanding Court Members during this reign, as well as being recognized for work done during earlier reigns. Emperor Chuck, presented Reggie Grove as the Imperial Prince of Hearts for Life. Empress Chenelle made Brandi Roberts Grand Dame to all Empresses for Life.
The Downtown Radisson was the scene of a Journey to the Land of Enchantment on April 11, 1987, closing out this lovely year of beauty and energy. Maintaining the grace and dignity which was their signature, the Thirteeth Reign welcomed the new reign, Fourteen.

The Fourteenth Reign began with an accent on fun. No one was better qualified to lead this reign than the two people the city selected as Emperor and Empress XIV, Hank Naccarato and Robin Turner. The Fourteenth Reign dedicated itself to re-affirming the ICRME link to the community they were elected to serve. The Emperor and Empress encouraged their line members to hold functions for their adopted organization, which happened to be the Colorado AIDS Project. In addition to the myriad of activities as Emperor and Empress XIV, both Monarchs found themselves also elected to serve on the Board of Directors for CASA. While there, they managed to help that organization raise and donate over $7000 to the Carousel Ball, a major fundraiser for CAP. Empress Robin was, in turn, selected to serve on the Board of Directors for CAP.
Hank and Robin held their major functions without depending on themes to carry them. They were simply called the PR Ball, held at Rossis; Snowball, hosted at the Downtown Radisson; and The King of Hearts Ball placed at the Denver Turnverein.
Empress XIV, Robin was supported in her endeavors by an outstanding line of succession headed by the Princess Royale, Raye Bobian; Queen Mother, Pearl DeVere; Grand Duchess, Lucy LaRue; Czarina, Brittany Michaels; and Marquessa, Monique LaBrey. Emperor XIV, Hank, was aided by his Prince Royale, Joe Sequenzia; King Father, Ron Heath; Grand Duke, Jerry Harrel; Czar, Gary Chapman; Marquis, Dwayne Ohls; and Don, John Menchaca. The Fourteenth Reign is one which was truly recognized citywide. Robin further enhanced her reign by presenting her permanent title to the owner of B.J.s Carousel, Mr. Bob Engels: Father of the Realm. Hank, as Emperor XIV was supported throughout his entire year by his life partner, Gary Allsupp, and in return awarded him the title, Imperial Prime Minister for Life.
At the Downtown Radisson, the Fourteenth Reign hosted The Turn of A Century and closed out their year by leaping through time and welcoming the future, which was to be the Fifteenth Reign.

After a decade and a half the Imperial Court was still going strong. The city, in this fifteenth reign, elected two delightful and gracious monarchs and crowned them Emperor and Empress XV, Vince Kline and Belle Fontaine. This reign brought some things to a close and also had the opportunity to try some new ideas. After a long association with the Downtown Radisson, new management caused the court to bring this relationship to a close with Emperor and Empress XVs stepping down. Vince and Belle were the first Monarchs to have their entire Coronation video-taped, as well as having video screens on either side of the stage for audience viewing. Vince and Belle also broke with tradition by being enthroned on a satellite dais which gave them the same view of the stage as the audience. A Imperial Masquerade at the Downtown Radisson was where the PRs were elected for the first time.
In December, the Radisson also played host to A Fantasy in White, the fifteenth Snowball. The Denver Botanical Gardens were the scene for Your Worst Nightmare, the King of Hearts Ball.
Emperor Vince and Empress Belle were both blessed with hardworking, supportive lines of succession. For Belle, there was her Princess Royale, Brittany Michaels; Queen Mother, Pearl DeVere; Grand Duchess, Monique LeBrey; Czarina, Kim Kirchner; Marquessa, Joanna Raye; Baroness Savannah Wild; Countess, Anne Furthermore; and Reina, Carissa Cambridge. Vince was supported by his Prince Royale, Michael West; King Father, Ron Heath; Grand Duke, Reggie Groves; Czar, Kevin Kaukman; Marquis, Gary Chapman; Baron, Ken Barker; Count, John Menchaca and Don, Rich Peters. Vince and Belle gave their permanent titles to two extremely supportive individuals for their reign. Monique LeBrey was awarded Imperial First Lady to All Empresses for Life and Kim Kirchner was made Sir Kim, Knight of the Realm for Life.
A Royal Journey to Faraway Dreams, the last coronation to be held at the Downtown Radisson, was a fitting tribute to the Fifteenth Reign and its Monarchs. With new technology coupled with old tradition, it was a night to remember. With the close of a year of Hearts, the city was again asked to vote and ICRME began its year of sweet sixteen.

Again, the city was ready for a year of energy and fun. The citizens of the Empire found these qualities in their sixteenth monarchs, Emperor and Empress XVI, Ken Barker and Bublz LaRue, the first Monarchs to be elected without a ticket to Coronation needed for voting. The Sixteenth Reign made a special effort to be representatives of the city in which they reigned. At out of town coronations, Ken and Bublz took bar advertisements, the community newspaper, matches, and anything else that advertised Denver and Colorado. They would take over out of state hospitality rooms by chatting up Denver and its charms to everyone. The Sixteenth Reign also dedicated their Ball Program to the Tavern Guild in a salute to all the bars and businesses which had been instrumental in supporting the Court. The city returned that favor at Ken and Bublz stepping down. The first act, dedicated to in-town business and organization entrances, consisted of the largest number of participants in the history of the Court. The sixteenth reign also managed to squeeze in a couple of firsts during their tenure. The Adopt-a-Monarch campaign was begun in order to help the lines of succession learn more about the Courts history, as well as to let the past monarchs know their experience and wisdom was sought and important. Also, upon their stepping down, the Crystal Empress tradition for all the Empresses of the ICRME began.
The Radisson hosted the PR Ball A Tribute to the Silver Screen, where for the first and last time, the PRs were elected. Ken and Bubblz each nominated two people for PR. The election was held during intermission and the winners announced near the end of the Ball. A Crystal Christmas, the annual Snow Ball, and the King of Hearts Ball, Oriental Express, were both held at the Denver Turnverein.
The lines of succession played a huge part in the success of this reign. The 16th Reign was supported by Princess Royale, Cheryl Brouhard; Queen Mother, Pearl DeVere; Grand Duchess, Carissa Cambridge; Czarina, first was Casey OShea, then Christina Le Austin; Marquessa, Rosa; Baroness, Miss Kitty; Countess, Kelli Marie K-Mart; and Reina Yvette Monet. Supporting His Majesty was Prince Royale, Thom Frey; King Father, Ron Heath; Grand Duke, was first Mike LaSasso, then Ron Atkinson; Czar, Arthur Brown, Marquis, Tim Wulf; Baron, Dwayne Ohls; Count, Kevin Carlheim and Don, Buddy Cress. The Permanent titles for the Sixteenth Reign were awarded to John Menchaca as Supreme Crown Prince for Life and to Kelli Marie K-Mart as the Princess Regal, Keeper of Love and Laughter for Life.
The Regency Hotel, hosted A Diamond Dynasty; China and the Universe in the Year 3000, A.D. The sixteenth reign came to a close with a smashing success and with the dawn, came the beginning of the Seventeenth Reign.

The Seventeenth Reign saw the election of two experienced and energetic leaders, Emperor and Empress XVII Michael West and Brittany Michaels.
These two individuals had been working together for several years within the Court system having served together as a couple since the 14th reign. The city was fortunate in having these two individuals serve as our Monarchs. They, and their court, brought new and exciting power to the ICRME. Michael and Brittany had the opportunity to appoint both a new King Father and Queen Mother during their reign. Their court was also one of thirty charitable organizations that worked on the Denver Grand Prix. The Courts creativity was very evident during this year in that the Seventeenth Reign made award-winning entrances at every out of state visit. Being environmentally aware, this reign also participated in a recycling drive at King Soopers in conjunction with C.H.U.N. (Capitol Hill United Neighborhood). For the first time the Coronation was also designated as a charity ball, adding even more money donated by this reign to those in need. This year was also the origin of the Legend Emperors of the ICRME. Michael and Brittany were also blessed by the involvement and commitment of Denvers womans community.
The Executive Tower Inn figured very prominently during this reign. It was the location of the PR Ball, Legends & Lands, the Snowball, Christmas in Toyland, and the King of Hearts Ball, An Evening at the Opera.
Aiding these two monarchs was another outstanding set of line of succession. For the Seventeenth Empress, there was her Princess Royale, Stephanie Starr, the new Queen Mother (for Life) Nina Montaldo; Duchess, Joanna Rae; and Czarina, Christina Lee Austin. For the Emperor, there was his Prince Royale, James Nash; the new King Father (for Life) Gary Allsupp; Grand Duke, Buddy Cressy; Czar, Gregg Looker; Marquis, John Schlegle and Baron, Wayne Tafolla.
The permanent titles given this year went to two especially deserving individuals. From the Emperor, the title of Imperial Princess of Legends to all Emperors for Life was awarded to Joanna Rae and the Empress awarded the title of Imperial First Gentleman to all Empresses for Life to John Schlegle.
A beautiful end to a beautiful reign was experienced by everyone on April 20, 1991 at the Regency Hotel. The Treasures of Atlantis brought to an end the 17th Reign and opened the gates for Reign 18 to begin.

Dreams do come true and no one is better qualified to attest to that fact than the monarchs elected for this reign. Emperor and Empress XVIII, Gregg Looker and Kinsey Rapport. Again, experience ruled the thrones of the ICRME. Both monarchs had been involved with the Court system for several years. Empress Kinsey had previously been the Courts Seventh Prince Royale. Emperor Gregg finally achieved his dream after having attempted six campaigns (The International Court record!!). This reigns stepping down was one of the most unusual in that for the first time there was music composed especially for the Coronation by a professional musician. "The Gates of Ishtar", composed by Davol, was a beautiful and effective addition to the Coronation. Davol further complimented the ICRME, and specifically Empress XVIII, by dedicating his first album to this Coronation. Also during this reign, the ICRMEs first woman Prince Royale was named, further evidence of the womens community coming forward and working side by side with their gay brothers. The court has only been made stronger and better by this welcome addition of talent.
The Regency Hotel played a large part in this reign by being the site for the PR Ball, A USO Tour, the Snowball, Christmas Around the World, and the King of Hearts Ball, Arabian Nights.
Both the monarchs had a wealth of talent and energy within their lines of succession. For the 18th Empress, there was her Princess Royale, Nicole Sommers; Queen Mother, Nina Montaldo; Grand Duchess, Brooke Trout; Czarina, Tara Avenue; Marquessa, Alyssa Del Ray and Reina, Krystyn Phillips. The 18th Emperor was favored by his Prince Royale, Diane DeHerrera; King Father, Gary Allsupp; Grand Duke, Dwayne Ohls; Czar, Mark Kasel; Marquis, Jeff Kersman and Don, Wayne Tafolla. The Eighteenth Monarchs gave their permanent titles to two outstanding and long-standing members of the court. Empress Kinsey awarded the title of Imperial Prince of the Fire and Ice Rose to Buddy Cressy, while Emperor Gregg awarded the title of Legendary Prince of Dreams to Dwayne Ohls.
The Regency Hotel again played host to the Coronation. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Seventh Wonder of the World, was a beautifully constructed evening and as the dream came to a close for the Eighteenth Reign, it had only begun for our Nineteenth.

The Nineteenth Reign faced some trying times during its year. The Court was fortunate to have been under the leadership of Emperor and Empress XIX, John Menchaca and Brandi Roberts. A national election year brought both great hope and despair to this reign. With the election of a new president, the hopes of many were of greater understanding and a wider acceptance of our lifestyle. On that same evening the Gay Community suffered a crushing blow with the passage of Amendment Two, a thinly disguised anti-gay proposition. In the wake of this travesty came an even more sensitive situation. While it was meant to be supportive of the Gay Community, the Boycott Colorado campaigns which came about, were somewhat misplaced. Those people and business who did vote against it were being punished along with the majority who passed the Amendment. Emperor and Empress XIX, John and Brandi, wisely chose to NOT support this endeavor and in their travels attempted to educate and encourage others in a more sensible boycott, if any. Despite the sensitivity of this Amendment, the Nineteenth Reign was still able to go about the Courts business of raising funds for organizations, businesses and individuals who needed its help.
The Regency Hotel was the site for PR Ball Fiesta 92. The Executive Tower Inn played host to Snow Ball, Christmas in Austria and to King of Hearts Ball, Through the Looking Glass An Imperial Wonderland.
Helping the 19th Emperor and Empress were two groups of outstanding people. When You Wish Upon A Star is the appropriate description of the election of the twentieth monarchs of the Imperial Court, Empress XX Stephanie Starr and Emperor XX Diane DeHerrera. Diane was the first female elected to the title of Emperor, thus bringing the unification efforts of the court to its pinnacle. With Stephanie added as Empress, we again had vibrant energy coupled with determination. The Twentieth Court was goal orientated, organized and traveled a steady and determined path to its completion. It was during this year that Emperor Diane and Emperor Gregg Looker began their work to reestablish the White Rose Scholarship Fund; a project that Diane has worked tirelessly on ever since. The overall involvement of the total community evolved during this year and we saw a lot of new blood and energy injected into the Court system in Denver.
The beginning of the reign was celebrated with PR Ball at the Executive Tower Inn. Snow Ball was held at the Regency with a Russian Theme; and King of Hearts at the Regency as well, to set the tone for the next reign.

The Emperor had Bill Wright as Prince Royale; Grand Duke, Mark Kassel; and Czar, Lee Doudney. Diane awarded her permanent title to Mary Martinez, an outstanding Court member.

The twenty-first reign opened with a bang with two candidates who both ran the previous year being crowned by their opponents and this Nicole Sommers and Michael Graczyk became the 21st Empress and Emperor of the Imperial Court. They were the first Monarchs to try something different by holding an investiture of their Court titles the night before PR Ball giving out titles for Bars, Business and Organizations and Citizens of the Realm, leaving Saturday a shorter evening! Out of town entrance awards were plenty during the twenty-first reign and two very popular Monarchs represented our city well in their travels. Empress Nicole started her annual All Walks of Life Show which raised over $1500 for the AIDS Walk during the twenty-first year. The first scholarships of the reinstated White Rose Scholarship Fund were awarded at Michael and Nicoles stepping down culminating a very community oriented reign.

The selection of two energetic, beautiful people for this important year was achieved when the community chose Jeff Clark and Nina Montaldo as Emperor and Empress XXIV. This golden year was truly 24-Kt in more ways than one. Jeff and Nina, in addition to having an endless reservoir of class and elegance, distinguished themselves as outstanding representatives on the Court circuit. Between the two of them, they are probably the most traveled Monarchs in out history. All this, plus being all over the city and raising funds for numerous charities at an amazing rate. The Pink Ribbon Campaign from his reign raised over $3000; the Thanksgiving Food Drive for CAP raised about $4000 and Nina herself set a Court record raising a little over $600 at Smack-A-Star to hit her with a pie!! Nina and Jeff now hold the voter turnout record for the Court with approximately 1600 votes cast in the election they won. Among the firsts for this reign are Nina being recognized in the line of succession to Jose I of San Francisco and their Coronation will be the first to be held at the DIA Holiday Inn, a break from tradition.

The Silver Anniversary Reign began with the closest election in the history of the Imperial Court with Empress Kir Royale winning by 2 votes out of the 1400 which were cast.
The 25th Reign kicked off at BJs Carousel where Tom and Kir began the year by singing a duet At the Beginning and worked together as a team throughout the year setting an example of teamwork for the 25th Imperial Family.
It was a year of great change in Denver. The Matchmaker closed its doors, Mikes changed ownership, and the Colfax Mining Company changed names and suddenly we had lost three show bars. We also lost Dads Coffee House in June where the Court and Community had supported the Gay Youth for many years. But with this change also came an increased focus in working with other organizations in the city and the Courts standing with many organizations rose to an all time high.
Tom & Kir were the first Monarchs in many years to stay overnight at the Rocky Mountaineers Motorcycle Clubs Golden Fleece Run, organized ICRMEs support of Project Angel Heart and continued the Thanksgiving Food Drive for CAP and the Pink Ribbon Campaign. Tom & Kir had the first "Youth" titles and the 25th Reign helped with fundraising for the initial year of Rainbow Alley.

The election of the 29th Monarchs would bring together two individuals that had been long time supporters of the Imperial Court. Combined Emperor Robert Flores and Empress 29 would bring over 20 years of service to the court of Denver. Emperor Robert served as Prince Royale 22 and also held various other civic titles. Empress 29 served as Princess Royale 27 and also held various civic titles within Denver and nationally. Combined they would be able to tap into resources that the court had not used in a while.
The 29th reign tackled many administrative hurdles the court had been facing. With a focus on building partnerships and cutting costs the 29th reign began it first steps with the monthly newsletter. A change in the format would not only cut costs but it would also provide more information for the membership as well as generate revenue. The second focus of the 29th reign was to build relationships and partnerships with other non-profit organizations and also with other GLBT bars and business. The 29th reign stepped outside of the box and started by hosting a beer truck at pride fest. The success of this event gave the court the opportunity to serve beer and soda at the Cheery Creek Arts Festival and the Lowry Air Show Days. Both of these events being primarily a straight event gave the court exposure to a section of Denvers community that had been untapped. The 29th reign worked closely with the GLBT Community Center to help produce Cheshire Ball, which profited $7000 for Denvers GLBT Youth Center (Rainbow Alley). During the Pink Ribbon Campaign the 29th reign also raised the bar for the pink ribbon campaign goal of $5000.00 to over $6000.00.
Empress 29 would host Snowball on November 23rd, 2002 at the Executive Tower in Hotel. The evening was an Imperial Holiday in Russia. The event would host over 300 people and raise $15,000.00 in Cash and Non-Perishable items for the Colorado Aids Project, Urban Peak and the Imperial Court placing this years Snowball as the largest and most successful in the courts history. Emperor Robert would Host his King of Hearts at the Executive Tower Inn, On Saturday March 15th, 2003 the theme was Man of LaMancha and once again the ballroom would be packed. Both Snowball and King of Hearts would be Sold out and offer standing room only.

The city was happy for the election of the Thirtieth Anniversary Monarchs, who were Emperor XXX Chuck Mecham and Empress XXX Greta B Quick. Chuck and Greta did many things different during their Reign. One of which was bringing into existence name tags for dues paid members to be able to show to those who were donating money who the membership was. They also took their fundraising efforts back to the community with a very strong Imperial Family, who were just that, a family. Prince Royale Johnny Romero, Princess Royale Scarlett Fever, King Father John Schlegel, Queen Mother Scotti Carlyle, Grand Duke Gary Burchfield, Grand Duchess Sue Anne Michaels, Czar George Wright, Czarina Ida Maybe, Marquis Richard Pritekel, Marquisa Brandi Alexander, Don Andy Johnson, Reigna Kelly Michaels, Count Baker Wolf, Countess Debbee Summers, Baron Maggie, Baroness Molotovia Cocktail, Viscount Jon Crenshaw, Viscountess Katrina St. Andrews, Crown Prince Jeff Hoppe, Crown Princess Mercedes, Lord Lamar Cooper and Lady Rebecca Tucker worked together as a well-oiled team, making the jobs of Chuck and Greta much easier.
During June, the Family worked very hard putting together an award-wining Crowd Favorite float for the Gay Pride Parade. Chuck, Greta and the I.C.R.M.E. were also honored for their accomplishments in the Community at a fundraising dinner for the Center, hosted by the Pink Pages (a community phone number directory magazine). The Court was also a highlighted organization in the Summer/Fall issue of the magazine. Chuck and Greta had a great year with the PR Ball, Snow Ball, and King of Hearts all being held at the Executive Tower Inn. PR Ball kicked off the reign In the Den of Geisha Girls and Samurai Warriors. Snowball was Christmas in the Rockies held on November 22nd, and King of Hearts, A Pow-Wow on the Imperial Emerald High Plains was on March 20th.
At Smack-A-Star where community dignitaries are auctioned off, Greta did a fabulous job. Greta was auctioned off for a total of $700, which beat the previous record of $600, which was held by Empress 24 Nina Montaldo. Emperor Chuck and Empress Greta were very proud to host Coronation XXXI, Springtime in the Rockies Holidays in Colorado where many of the citys bars, businesses, and organizations were not only in attendance but also joined in the festivities to celebrate the thirtieth reign accomplishments and to commemorate the courts Thirtieth Anniversary Year. They also took a chance and moved Victory Brunch back into the community. It was held in a bar, Charlies, for $10 per person. Not only did it make a profit, but Wayne Jakino, Charlies General Manager, also made a donation to kick off the 31st reigns White Rose fund and Pink Ribbon Campaign in the amount of $1.50 per ticket sold for each cause.

The 31st Reign of the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire was called the Legendary Crystal Court of Passion and Endurance. This reign would be known to make dramatic changes not only in the way we do business but also install change into peoples way of thinking. Our two leaders were destined to remind our Empire of the Passion that we as a community once had for our organization in order to endure another 30 years of existence. The finale of this reign marked the completion of the first year towards this goal.
On Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Cheesman Park, our uncontested Emperor Candidate won his election with ease, as well as one of two of our Empress Candidates. The victors became the first appointed Prince & Princess Royale couple in our organizations history to become an elected Monarch couple. Emperor XXXI, Paul Stackpole, is known as the Legend of the Crystal Dragon Samurai and Empress XXXI, Kiki Monroe, is known as the Synergy of the Crystal, The Sacred Pink Lotus Blossom Empress. Empress Kiki goes down in history as being the 1st elected Monarch of Asian descent for the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire. Both Paul and Kiki admire the Asian culture, hence keeping that theme throughout their reign.
An Imperial Celebration of Tibetan Goddesses was the theme for Empress Kikis Snow Ball 2004 which was held on Saturday, November 20, 2005 at the Executive Tower Hotel in downtown Denver. Empress Kikis Snow Ball Charities Fundraising Campaign raised over $12,500 in monetary donations and $5,000 in in-kind donations making it the highest dollar amount raised to date during a Snow Ball Fundraising Campaign. Initially, Empress Kiki chose two charities to be the recipients of Snow Ball proceeds. Colorado AIDS Project Thanksgiving Basket Program helped Kiki set a goal of $8,000 to help fund their program. Empress Kiki found a new organization to introduce to the ICRME, CHiP, Childrens Hospital Immunodeficiency Program who would receive product donations. At the end of the night, Empress Kiki gave away $8,120 to CAP, $5,000 in in-kind donations to CHiP, $1,500 to an added charity, POCCAA, and $2,500 stayed with the ICRME.
The 31st Reigns Out of the Box mentality sparked a new Fundraising Campaign that was led by Emperor Paul for King of Hearts 2005 entitled, The Endurance of the Silk Road, Legends of the Great Wall held on Saturday, March 12, 2005 at the Executive Tower Hotel. The Matthew Shepard Foundation was brought under scrutiny by the Religious Groups. At the Matthew Shepard Foundations Bear to Make A Difference Affair in March of 2005, Emperor Paul presented a check for over $2,000 to Judy Shepard along with representatives from the Denver based operations of the Matthew Shepard Foundation.
Emperor Paul and Empress Kiki hosted Coronation XXXII, Rise of the Orient, The Majestic Dynasties of the Far East on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at the Holiday Inn DIA Hotel and Convention Center. Up until the very last moments, Paul & Kiki were fundraising to help their community. After the numbers were counted, the 31st Reign became the 2nd Reign in Denvers History to raise over $100,000. Paul & Kiki could not have accomplished this feat without the help of the Community, their Prince & Princess Royale, Michael Vrooman and Martini Monroe and the Imperial & Royale Families: Kimberley, Cheryce Alexander, Lynn Shelburne, Whitney Gale, Eryn, Missy, Bryan, Sabrina McKay, Marz, Cynthia Jacobs, Baby James, Miranda Morgan, Manuel Sexton, Alexis Sexton, Sarah Hoogendyk, Michael Villarini, Michelle Rae Deon, Kathy Crook, Dsyre DuMonde, Doug Bates and Casi Lamar.

Building relationships was the goal for the 32nd elected monarchs and they did just that by re-establishing the tight family bond with daughter court from Colorado Springs (UCPPE). Also establishing strong relationship with many bars within the community such as The Denver Triangle where many of the 32nd reign events were held. There are many perceptions of the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire (ICRME) and we have heard just about all of them. But out of all of the things you might have heard, is your perception an accurate one. Is it one of grandeur and parades, of performances and entertainment or is one of philanthropic work, continued education based programs and community involvement. Well, all of these things are correct and are part of ICRME's rich history. For Thirty-four years, ICRME has been actively involved in the communities of Northern Colorado through fund raising, education, raising awareness to social and political issues and performing noble deeds. Hundreds and Thousands of dollars are raised by members of ICRME along with members of our communities every year to assist those in need and most of that is done under the leadership of two individuals you, the community elects every April; one week before ICRME's Coronation Ball.
Being elected Emperor or Empress of the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire provided us with some amazing opportunities to serve you during our year as well as provided some unprecedented moments and memories for a lifetime. During our year, we saw Monarchs on the covers of publications, announced Denver's 2006 Gay Pride Parade and Family Day and volunteered with C.A.P.'s Art for Life. Thousands of Dollars of product was donated to Urban Peak for direct use in their facility and its clients and ICRME contributed a successful team to AIDS Walk Colorado. Through the White Rose Scholarship Fund, a branch of this organization, $13,000 in Continued Education Scholarships will be awarded. We traveled to over 14 cities and networked and with others in charitable based fields and learned from each other. ICRME was recognized at the Gender Identity Center's annual convention "Gold Rush" as the Friend to the G.I.C.'s Organization of the Year.
Snowball 2006, Wishes of a Celtic Winter, A Force of Nature, actively though out the community raised approximately $16,000 in funds and products donated to its charities; Urban Peak and the Colorado AIDS Project.
King of Hearts 2007, GOTHAM, A Force of the Mind brought creativity and whimsy to an entertaining evening introducing three candidates for the offices of Emperor and Empress XXXIV.
Coronation 34, HEAVEN, A Force To Be Reckoned With, brought in over 400 participants, including the presence of the new titular head of the International Court System, Empress Nicole the Great, Queen Mother of the Americas. Two Heirs Apparent to Empress Nicole were named from Denver that evening; Empress XXIII Sydney Andrews and Emperor XXXIII Michael Vrooman.
We have forged and continued many relationships with those in our community and are extremely proud of the accomplishments of the Organization as a whole with our communities. It is important to remember that you elect the position of Emperor and Empress. We took that seriously as community servants. We worked with you and for you and it was an honor and a privilege. Thank you for the opportunity.

It was back to old school with our newly elected monarchs. Both Emperor Pauline and Empress Janelle brought a sense of old school style; returning to the basics and much needed community outreach. Emperor Pauline is the 3rd elected female to the College of Monarchs. Emperor Pauline and Empress Janelle are only one pair of three Latin monarchs to be elected and reign together. These monarchs were better known for thinking outside the box, while still keeping with traditions; they set the tone for change.
Proving to be an old school leader, Touch of Class was held at Hamburger Marys benefiting Denver PFLAG. The show was so HOT it blew the circuits out! Empress Janelle hosted Snow Ball, The Empress Annual Charity Event, titled Freshwater Fantasies; An Evening of Leather & Rhinestone. Kicking off the state events for the 34th reign, Empress Janelle was host to Empress Brittany Morgan, of the Imperial Court De San Diego, who gave a spectacular performance clad in leather and rhinestone. The evening proved to be successful for her chosen charities; Chesney-Klienjohn, Sense of Security and Horizon House. Empress Janelle vowed not to forget our past and those monarchs that have passed away. She chose a fitting memorial to the Crystal College of Empress by displaying the symbol of their office, their Empress crowns, in the back of the ballroom during Snow Ball. Following tradition, Empress Janelle awarded the annual Kinsey Award to Empress Lola of Los Angeles, better known as Carlos Larrinaga, the owner of CJs Leather, in appreciation for all that Carlos has done to bring success to the ICRME. Empress Janelle vowed to move ICRME forward with the times, but never to forget where we started.
Emperor Pauline Chavez kicked off her All Boys show with a Latin flare, being proud of our Latin Heritage the show had a Latin Flare about it. In keeping with Her Majesties promise to invest in our youth and our future the show benefited Rainbow Alley. The show was dedicated to the memory of Hank Naccarato, Emperor XIV - The Teddy Bear Emperor, whom Emperor Pauline chose her title after. King of Hearts - The Search for Davy Jones' Locker; An Imperial Treasure Untold kicked off with Emperor Pauline making a surprise entrance from a treasure chest. An incredible night of entertainment was shared by Regent Emperor XXXII Alan Anderson of The Royal Court of the Golden Spike Empire of Salt Lake City. The Iron Wolf-White Dove award was awarded to Hamburger Mary's for their role in helping open new doors to the community.
Prince Royale XXXIV Jon Crenshaw & Princess Royale XXXIV Sophia DeVille hosted Black Tie Affair; An Evening with the Royales, a benefit for Colorado AIDS project. This fast paced and exciting evening with over a dozen past Prince & Princess Royales in attendance proved to be another success for this reign. They were also host to PR Ball 2008 A Mardi Gras Celebration; An Evening in the French Quarter.
The 34th Imperial Family served their monarchs proud and quickly became hard working individuals. Emperor Pauline appointed Prince Royale 34 - Jon Crunchy Crenshaw, Grand Duke - Allen Hasket, Czar Donna Lopez. Empress Janelle appointed Princess Royale 34 Sophia DeVille, Grand Duchess Sue Anne Michael, Czarina Tina Stegal
The 34th Reign ended with the 35th Anniversary Coronation, Beyond Wicked; A Return to OZ. In setting a new direction for their charities, Emperor Pauline chooses RAAP (Rape Awareness Assistance Program), having assisted Emperor Pauline earlier in the 34th reign. While Empress Janelle chose Guillian-Barre Syndrome (GBS), not wanting to forget our fellow court members who had been afflicted and survived their bout with GBS; Emperor 25 Tom J & Princess Royale 34 Sophia DeVille.
Sadly, the end of the 34th reign was marked with the passing of two individuals. Lisa Nawrocki, beloved friend of the community, wife of Empress 19 Brandi Roberts and King Father to the 34th reign, Emperor 27 Kent Epperson. Both individuals will be missed dearly.
As the Return to the Land of OZ drew to an end, the Monarchs permanent titles were given wisely and wrapped up their tradition of old school. Empress Janelle awarded her permanent title to someone who was no stranger to the idea of old school, The Absolute Essence of the Freshwater Rose 1st Lady to ALL Empresses for Life, Kandi Montana. Emperor Pauline bestowed the honor of Imperial Gentlemen and Keeper of the Teddy Bear Heart to John Locke.
The 35th anniversary coronation weekend also hosted: The Jose Honors and the International Court Council, presided by Empress Nicole the Great, Queen Mother of the Americas. Court members from as far as Alaska and Hawaii were recognized for their journey to the Mile High City, Queen City of the Plains.
Thus began the 35th reign down the yellow brick road.

Reign 36 began on Saturday April 18, 2009 with the Coronation of The Legend of The Kodiak, The Big Boy Emperor of Change and Devotion Emperor XXXVI Allen Haskett and The Revelation of the Crystal, The Malachite and Ivory Celestial Swan Empress of Dignity and Laughter, Empress XXXVI Sophia DeVille.
Reign 36 was to be known as The Legendary Crystal Court of Devotion, Laughter and Transformation. The goal for the reign was to rebuild relationships and reach out to the Denver GLBT community. The Monarchs decided to split up their list of out of town travels so that they could cover more ground out of town and still have a strong presence in their own realm. They both attended Salt Lake City, Colorado Springs and Las Vegas. The Emperor attended Phoenix, Omaha, Alaska, Houston and Spokane. The Empress attended Dallas, Portland, San Francisco, Des Moines and Seattle. The Empress also traveled to Salt Lake City for their PR fundraising event.
Toward their goal of reaching out to the Denver GLBT community, the 36th reign was a part of the gay bowling league tournament and the gay tennis tournament. The 36th reign also helped the gay rodeo association by having a vendor booth at the rodeo as well as pouring beer for them. The 36th reign attended several local pageants to include; Rocky Mountain Shinning Star, Majestic Hearts and Gay Pride. The 36th reign also attended national events held in Denver such as the National GLBT Task Force.
The 36th Reign also took on many changes for their year. It was the last year that the Empress would host Snow Ball alone, and the last year the Emperor would host King of Hearts as a State Event. There would be an added function called the All Candidates Event to kick off the campaign season. Another big change for the ICRME would come in the form of a nationally recognized headliner at Coronation. The board of directors chose R&B recording artist CeCe Peniston as the headliner. Many changes were made to Coronation weekend based upon a private committee’s recommendations. The Monarchs were very gracious and allowed many changes to be made during their step down weekend.
Snow Ball 2009 “A Celestial Journey into the Antarctic Winter” was held on Saturday November 21st at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel, it would be the last state event held there. Horizon House and Urban Peak were the recipients of the evenings' fundraising efforts. Twenty Year Anniversary Emperor Ken Barker created a spectacular winter set. It would be a tribute to his own Empress and her Snow Ball with three giant snowflakes center stage. Empress Sophia invited two reigning Empresses to be commands at Snow Ball, Empress XVII of the United Court of the Sandias, Aleah Rico; and Empress XXIX of the Imperial Court of Nebraska, Holly Day. Empress Sophia chose Urban Peak and Horizon House as the beneficiaries. Special thanks to Ball Coordinator Empress Sydney Andrews, Program Coordinator Emperor Gregg Looker and Set Designer Emperor Ken Barker. Empress Sophia awarded the Kinsey Award to Roby Frank for his years of service to the ICRME and his hard work for her. Roby served as Sophia's campaign manager, helped build several ICRME sets and many behind the scenes projects over the years.

Dan and Stephanie stepped into the role of Emperor and Empress knowing that they had big shoes to fill but were ready to make a mark and show the world they were here.
Our family stuck by us through thick and thin. They built an amazing float for Pride and then spent the whole weekend making sure everyone attending had a cocktail. Stephanie and I are honored and humbled by our family and that bond still endured to this day.
During our reign we started to see a shift in venues and availability was limited causing us to throw shows in some sketchy places but Stephanie killed it for Snowball 38 and Micheal Vrooman killed it by making us a train as our backdrop. We also started doing concessions at Broncos games and made $10,000 for our charities over the course of the season
PR ball was the kickoff to our coronation weekend where we saw the fruits of our hard work come to pass. Coronation 39 was filled with our friends and families and our reward was to pass the baton to the next reign.

Reign 39 went into the year wanting to strengthen several things:
-The relationship with in town Bars, Businesses and Organizations
-The relationship with our Daughter Court, the United Court of the Pikes Peak Empire, Colorado Springs, CO; and -The relationship with our Granddaughter Court, The United Court of the Sandias, Albuquerque, NM.
We believe that we were able to do just that!!
With the closing of one of Denver’s longest running GLBT Bars, BJ’s Carousel, it was a challenge to find a show venue. The Reign began to think outside the box to do fundraisers. By working with the Red Dolly Casino in Blackhawk, CO we were able to bring something new on a few occasions.
As a Board of Directors we were able to successful vote in the new Bylaws, bringing the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire in full compliance with the Nonprofit Law in the State of Colorado.
Some of the charities we raised money for were: The White Rose Scholarship Foundation, Children’s Hospital Immunodeficiency Program, Denver Children’s Advocacy Center, Urban Peak, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and several others. This Reign, Ken and Martini asked the Board to venture out on a new fundraising idea-BINGO. With the support of the 39th Family and a small list of other volunteers we were able to that about one year. This money was used to pay for court expenses incurred for various events.
Early in the Reign we were able to secure and confirm that Queen Mother of the Americas, Nicole the Great and the International Court Council would hold the ICC meeting in Denver at Coronation 40. ‘Coronation: A Mile High Affair- The Making of a Monarchy’ was held on April 20, 2013 at the Renaissance Denver. Guests came down the escalator to a fanfare of the Reign Banners hanging from the ceiling and entered a regal display for a 40th Anniversary Celebration. It was an honor to have 41 members of the College of Monarchs present and the 40th Anniversary College of Monarch photo turned out amazingly beautiful. As part of the ‘Making of a Monarchy’ costumes and clothing from past reigns were repurposed to outfit the Emperor, Empress, Prince and Princess for the evening.
The 39th Imperial Family were:
Empress’ Line of succession: Princess Melissa Roberts, Queen Mother Kandi Montana, Grand Duchess choc-Latini, Czar “ina” Kody Kay, Marquessa Kenadi, Reina Starr Kirkland, Baroness Sierra Sunset-Bordeaux, and Countess Savanna Sunset-Bordeaux.Emperor’s Line of succession: Prince Royale Caeri Mancini, King Father Fred Valdez, Grand Duke Scot Alexzander, Czar Cory Wells, Marquis Andi Reed, Baron Rodd with 2 ‘D’s, Don Tracy Alexzander and Count Ray Rodriguez.
The year culminated as these two strong Monarchs brought in our 40th anniversary year: A Mile High Affair: The Making of a Monarchy, April 20, 2013.
